CLIMBING WITHOUT LIMITS
“A modern & accessible climbing centre for all ages & abilities that promotes the benefits of climbing for physical & mental health in an inclusive environment to inspire the next generation of climbers.”
ABOUT WSX CLIMBING
After careful preparation, working closely with Guideline Architects and EP Climbing (the Tokyo 2020 & Paris 2024 Olympic climbing wall provider), WSX Climbing Ltd now have planning permission to build a new first class climbing centre on the Sussex Surrey border.
The climbing centre will provide a total climbing surface area of over 25,800 sqft (2,400 sqm) for the three Olympic disciplines of lead climbing, bouldering and speed climbing. Together this will offer around 350 roped and autobelay routes, as well as bouldering.
We have consulted the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) on our proposals. The BMC recognise that the centre will be suitable for all levels of climber from beginner to elite level climbers. The climbing walls will be supported by a café, climbers’ gym, physio facilities and climbing shop.
The climbing centre supports Sport England’s vision to transform lives and communities through sport and physical activity.
The BMC, Sport England’s National Governing Body for climbing, recognises that climbing is not only a fulfilling activity that brings both physical and mental health benefits, but that the specific design of the centre will make it accessible for people of all levels and abilities, encouraging young climbers stay in the sport throughout their lives.
LOCATED NEAR GATWICK, WEST SUSSEX
WSX Climbing will be located at Rowfant, Crawley Down, close to Junction 10 on the M23. It will be accessible from the Worth Way cyclepath that links the mainline stations of Three Bridges (Crawley) and East Grinstead. A minibus service will connect to both mainline stations. Sufficient car and secure cycle parking will be provided.
LOCALLY FOCUSED
WSX Climbing will be a sustainable benefit to the local community in the following ways:
By providing a first class climbing centre, combining lead climbing, speed climbing and bouldering we can help encourage as many people as possible to enjoy all the physical, social and mental health benefits that climbing can offer.
WSX will facilitate over 165% increase in biodiversity value of the site through suitable landscaping. We have been very careful to ensure that no trees will be lost or damaged by our build.
WSX will provide approximately 29 Full Time Equivalent jobs, alongside new career opportunities, aimed mostly at local people.
